A week ahead of their first nationally televized game, Forward Madison got some additional national attention.

In the 43rd minute of the Mingos’ match at Chattanooga, striker Juan Galindrez took a ball across the box from Ferrety Sousa, elevated, spun in the air, and hammered it in with a side volley several feet off the ground.

It proved to be the decisive goal in a 1-0 win. It was also a special goal for Galindrez, returning for the first time to Chattanooga, where he played in 2021 and 2022. With 25 goals in 55 matches, he is still the Red Wolves’ all-time leading scorer.

The goal was named the ninth best play of the day on ESPN’s SportsCenter, inspiring disbelief from the anchors.

“He hovered,” one said. “He’s a human drone!”

Also among the top 10 were a goal from a fellow Colombian soccer player in an international match against the US, an NHL playoff shutout, and two baseball catches and several others.

The win puts Forward Madison atop their group in the Jagermeister Cup, an in-season tournament comprised of USL League One teams. They return to league play Saturday sitting in third place in the table, just one point behind Union Omaha and Greenville Triumph. That game is a 2 pm start, hosting South Georgia Tormenta in a match televised on ESPN2.
