Forward Madison FC has announced the signing of defender AJ Edwards, pending league and federation approval. Edwards previously played for Sacramento Republic FC.

The San Jose, California native began his career with the San Jose Earthquakes Academy before playing NCAA Division 1 soccer at UCLA from 2021-2023, recording 39 appearances with two goals and five assists.

Edwards turned professional in 2023 with San Jose Earthquakes II in MLS NEXT Pro, making 18 appearances with three assists in his rookie season. In 2024, playing for The Town FC (the rebranded club), he scored seven goals and added four assists while earning Team MVP honors.

In 2025, Edwards joined Sacramento Republic FC in the USL Championship, making 23 appearances across all competitions with one goal in 442 minutes played.

Head Coach and Technical Director Matt Glaeser cited Edwards’ athleticism and versatility as key factors in the signing. Sporting Director Matt Cairns noted the player’s performance in both USL Championship and MLS NEXT Pro competitions.

Forward Madison FC will begin their 2026 season with a road match in Knoxville next month. The team’s home opener is scheduled for May 16 against Detroit City FC at Breese Stevens Field.
