Goodman Community Center is sending out a call to anyone with the means to help provide 500 local children and teens with a backpack and supplies for the upcoming school year. For community members interested in pitching in, more information and the list of needed supplies can be found on the Goodman Community Center website here

The Center’s goal of providing 200 kids with supplies last year was met with enough engagement from the community to provide over double the goal, making this year’s aim of 500 reachable with enough support.

“Everything is so expensive right now, including school supplies, and families are feeling the stress,” said Goodman Community Center CEO Letesha Nelson in a release. “Every little bit will help ensure all kids have what they need this school year. Picking up a few supplies on your next trip to the store would do so much to make things a little easier for these families who could use the extra help.”

People can donate at the Goodman Center Ironworks parking lot, 149 Waubesa St., over the weekend at the following times: Friday, Aug 11, 3-6 p.m.; Saturday, Aug 12, 10 a.m.-noon; Sunday, Aug 13,11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Goodman Community Center has also partnered with local businesses to act as drop-off locations for those who cannot make many of the times. Ian’s Pizza Garver, Slow Roll Cycles, and Working Draft Beer Company will also be accepting donations for the backpack drive.

Additional ways to help can be through the Goodman Center Amazon wish list, as well as through donating directly here.
