What to expect when you vote early in-person absentee
- If you are already registered in the City of Madison, you will show your valid voter ID to the voting clerk, who will confirm your registration and prepare your ballot
- If you are not registered to vote, the voting clerk will help you register. Please ensure you bring the required documentation. Registration is not available on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday before Election Day.
- Once your voter registration is confirmed, you will be given your ballot and use the ExpressVote accessible ballot marking device to mark your paper ballot.
- After you mark your ballot, review your selections, fold the ballot, and seal it in the absentee envelope, and sign the envelope. The voting clerk will sign the envelope as your witness and securely store the ballot to be counted on Election Day.
Mailed absentee ballots
- If you still have your mailed absentee ballot, please return it as soon as possible. The Clerk’s Office must receive your ballot before polls close on Election Day for it to be counted.
- You can drop your mailed absentee ballot at the Clerk’s Office before any of the in-person absentee ballot locations open.
