Seat 7 incumbent Nicki Vander Meulen defeated challenger Wayne Strong by a 60-40 margin.

Vander Meulen is a juvenile attorney and has been a disability-rights advocate since a young age. She was first elected to Seat 7 in 2017, becoming the first school board member who is openly on the autism spectrum — not just in Madison, but in the entire United States.

Strong, is a longtime Madison police officer, lieutenant, mentor and football coach, who currently works as a program associate for the National Council on Crime & Delinquency.

“On behalf of my campaign team, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my supporters,” Strong told Madison365. “While I am deeply disappointed, I pledge to continue in my efforts to improve educational outcomes for all of our students. I would also like to congratulate my opponent and wish her much continued success on the board. Thank you.”
