Indigenous-owned Canndigenous drinks now available in Wisconsin stores
Uptempo, Midtempo and Downtempo are available in cannabis drink-carrying stores in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin’s first Indigenous-owned hemp company Canndigenous will now have its THC seltzer drinks on shelves across the state.

Canndigenous is a Cambridge-based hemp company owned by Rob Pero. Pero, who is a staunch advocate and leader for cannabis reform in Wisconsin, finally brought the drink to store shelves after it was only available online nearly one year later. The drink was initially launched in March 2024 at the annual Reservation Economic Summit in Las Vegas.

Originally two flavors — Uptempo and Downtempo — were launched online only, but its new store-available line adds a third in-between version of the other two with Midtempo.

Uptempo boasts a ginger and citrus flavor aimed for your morning routine with 5 mgs of THC and 5 mgs of cannabigerol (CBG), a hemp-derived cannabidiol that increases energy. Cannabigerol is shown to increase motor and cognitive function, according to a National Institute of Health Study.

Midtempo is geared towards recreation like travel and exercise. It is a green tea seltzer with honey containing 5 mgs of THC and 5 mgs of CBD.

Downtempo is to wind down. The mixed berry flavor contains 5 mgs of THC and 5 mgs of cannabidiol.

“Plant medicine is versatile. Our THC seltzers use the unique characteristics of cannabinoids to enhance everyday experiences,” Pero said. “They are delicious, but also intentional. Whether you’re getting active or winding down, or somewhere in between, we made these THC Seltzers with the best ingredients, flavors, and hemp-derived THC so they can be a part of our routine. We hope they enhance yours, too.”

The seltzers fall in line with Pero’s push for plant-based medicine alternatives. He founded the Indigenous Cannabis Industry Association (ICIA) to push tribes to realize the transformative power both medically and economically that the plant could bring while advocating for full cannabis reform laws. Cannabis reform, both medical and recreational, is largely supported by the majority of residents in Wisconsin, according to polling.

He has since moved efforts towards explicitly just medical cannabis reform in September 2024 through a new group aimed at all Wisconsinites called Wisconsin Wellness.
