Jason Gonzalez will be Fitchburg’s first Latino mayor.
Gonzalez, a criminal defense attorney and member of the Fitchburg Common Council, earned 58.5 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s election, comfortably defeating incumbent Steve Arnold.
“We have a really diverse community and that’s the new Fitchburg,” Gonzalez told Madison365 in February before finishing first in a three-way primary. “We need leadership that is not just stuck in the traditional suburban feeling.”
