The Honorable Rev. Everett Mitchell and Kim Young, founder of Dope Black Social Worker, will be the keynote speakers at the first-ever Anesis Multicultural Mental Health Conference, a groundbreaking event dedicated to advancing multicultural understanding and inclusivity within mental health care. The conference, hosted by Anesis Therapy and taking place Thursday, Aug. 22 at Madison Marriot West in Middleton, aims to bring together mental health professionals, advocates, and scholars from across the Midwest and beyond to explore the latest in multicultural mental health practices, research, and policies.

Mitchell is a distinguished Dane County Circuit Court judge, a powerful community advocate, and the senior pastor at Christ the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Madison. Young is an “expert troublemaker and licensed therapist who is nationally recognized for her work in the field of social work,” according to her bio on the conference’s website.

Anesis Therapy, a Black-owned, state-certified DHS clinic providing mental health services for people of color, was founded by Myra McNair in 2016.

“As the demand for culturally competent mental health care continues to grow, the Anesis Multicultural Mental Health Conference responds by offering a rich program of keynote speeches, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities,” Anesis Therapy wrote in a press release announcing the conference. “The conference focuses on fostering a more inclusive and equitable mental health landscape, with a special emphasis on the needs and experiences of diverse communities.”

The Anesis Multicultural Mental Health Conference, which aims to reshape the mental health care system in a way that truly recognizes and celebrates diversity, will feature expert speakers, educational sessions, networking opportunities and Continuing Education Units (CEU) credits through the UW School of Social Work.

Early bird registration is now open until May 31 for the conference, offering participants a discounted rate of $145. After this period, registration will increase to $195. Attendees are encouraged to register early to secure their spot and select their preferred breakout sessions.
