Recent developments at UW-Madison’s Division of the Arts will see Kayla McGhee as the new arts outreach and engagement coordinator to build connections between the Division and campus partners, along with the local creative industry and community.
McGhee is an artist and also an artists’ rights activist who is passionate about creating vibrant and diverse spaces that amplify underrepresented voices and celebrate art. Their most recent work as youth outreach coordinator for Young Chicago Authors is an example of the grassroots and community-centered approach McGhee plans to continue.
In the position of arts outreach and engagement coordinator, McGhee will run the student funding programs, organize events to build community in the arts, and strengthen relationships among campus and community organizations, according to an announcement from UW-Madison.
McGhee will also be the project lead on the 3-year Arts for Everyone, Everywhere initiative funded by the Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment. This initiative will help raise engagement in interdisciplinary arts communities around the state.
