The Madison Police Department and other city leaders are looking to promote partnerships and build a sense of community tonight, 4-7 p.m., by hosting National Nigh Out at Warner Park outside the Madison Mallards stadium on Madison’s North Side.
As part of a nationwide movement that hosts this event every August, tonight’s National Night Out event will give the community the chance to interact with the police department’s K-9 team, mounted patrol unit, drone team and other special groups within the department. Local community organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters, Operation Fresh Start, Journey Mental Health, BioOne, CampHero, Nami, Reach a Child, and more will be at the event.
“The best way to build a safer community is to know your neighbors. This event brings people together with the goal of improving public safety through community partnerships,” said Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes in a press release.
A community organization in all six of the city’s patrol districts will be hosting some type of celebration today and tonight and Chief Barnes, Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and other city leaders will take a trolley tour of the city, stopping at several of these events at the East Madison Community Center, Penn Park, Lerdahl Park, Bridge-Lakepoint-Waunona Neighborhood Center, Meadowlands Apartments, Darbor-Worthington Neighborhood Association, Meadowood Park, the Salvation Army, Luna’s Market and more.
