Madison Children's Museum in downtown Madison

Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month at Madison Children’s Museum this Thursday, May 11, 4-8 p.m. for performances and activities. All children and families are welcome, and admission will be free as part of MCM’s Access for Everyone program. Access for Everyone uses community support given to the Madison Children’s Museum to remove economic barriers to give all children an opportunity to join.

Kids will have the opportunity to enjoy performances in the museum’s outside Wonderground Playspace. The Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association will be bringing the Zhong Yi Lion Dancers to perform at 5:30 pm. Madison-based K-Pop and Hip Hop dance group, VIVID Dance Crew, will then perform at 6:30 pm. Japanese Taiko drumming group, Beni Daiko Taiko Ensemble, will then perform shortly after at 6:35 p.m.

Cultural activities such as embroidery demonstrations, traditional clothing, hands-on basket weaving, and sewing demonstrations will be held in the Art Studio by the Hmong Institute. Madison’s own traditional Tibetan and Himalayan restaurant Little Tibet will also be at the museum with food samples.

Little John’s Lunchbox, in partnership with Little John’s Kitchens, will be providing pay-what-you-can meals and snacks. The Madison Children’s Museum urges families to come out with their kids and participate as play and learning are critical to development. The opportunity to experience cultural activities and performances first-hand will surely be valuable for any child and family looking to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month.
