Long-time President Trump “fixer” and personal attorney Michael Cohen blasted his former boss at a blockbuster congressional hearing Wednesday.
“I am ashamed that I chose to take part in concealing Mr. Trump’s illicit acts rather than listening to my own conscience,” said Cohen. testifying before the House Oversight Committee. “I am ashamed because I know what Mr. Trump is. He is a racist. He is a con man. He is a cheat.”
“He was a presidential candidate who knew that Roger Stone was talking with Julian Assange about a WikiLeaks drop of Democratic National Committee emails,” Cohen added.
Cohen emphasized that President Trump, whom he worked under for a decade, is a racist.
“The country has seen Mr. Trump court white supremacists and bigots. You have heard him call poorer countries ‘sh*tholes.’ In private, he is even worse,” Cohen said. “He once asked me if I could name a country run by a black person that wasn’t a ‘sh*thole.’ This was when Barack Obama was President of the United States.
“While we were once driving through a struggling neighborhood in Chicago, he commented that only black people could live that way,” Cohen added. “And, he told me that black people would never vote for him because they were too stupid.”
Cohen said that Trump asked him to pay off an adult film star with whom he had an affair, and to lie to his wife about it, which he did.
“Lying to the First Lady is one of my biggest regrets,” Cohen said. “She is a kind, good person. I respect her greatly — and she did not deserve that.”
Trump, who is in Vietnam for a nuclear summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, attacked Cohen after his planned testimony was first reported.
“Michael Cohen was one of many lawyers who represented me (unfortunately),” Trump wrote in a Tweet. “He had other clients also. He was just disbarred by the State Supreme Court for lying & fraud. He did bad things unrelated to Trump. He is lying in order to reduce his prison time. Using Crooked’s lawyer!”
