The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), in partnership with 100 Black Men of Madison, Inc., will host the 2026 African American History Academic Challenge (AAHAC), a competition created to promote deeper learning and appreciation of African American history, on Thursday, March 12, at the Doyle Administration Building.
Student teams representing all 12 MMSD middle schools and four comprehensive high schools (as well as Capital High School) will participate in the event, according to a press release from MMSD, demonstrating their knowledge through a series of academic challenges focused on key figures, events and themes in African American history.
MMSD’s Spring Harbor Middle School is the event’s defending national champion, taking home the top honor at the 100 Black Men of America’s 2025 African American History Academic Challenge (AAHAC) last June during the organization’s 39th Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.
A signature event of the 100 Black Men of America Annual Conference, the AAHAC is designed to foster academic excellence and cultural awareness, inviting middle and high school students from across the country to showcase their knowledge of African American history in a competitive quiz-bowl format.
This Thursday’s 2026 African American History Academic Challenge will feature a high school competition at 3 p.m., and a middle school competition at 5:30 p.m. Top-performing teams will advance to the regional competition, scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 10:30 a.m. in the McDaniels Auditorium at the Doyle Administration Building, 545 W. Dayton St., in downtown Madison.
