Madison Alder Charles Myadze was formally charged with eight counts of battery, strangulation, burglary and attempted burglary Monday. He was released after an initial hearing on a signature bond of $500 per count.

Conditions of the bond specify that Myadze have no conact with Gloria R or any member of her family, have no contact with Makayla B, and make no threats or direct any acts of physical violence towards Jamie J, Mikel M, Armon M, or Michelle M.

The charges include two counts of attempted burglary, three counts of strangulation, one count of subtantial battery with intentional bodily harm, one count of false imprisonment and one count of battery during a burglary.

The charges list incident dates from February 2019 through November 2021, which correspond to allegations made by former deputy mayor and school board president Gloria Reyes in an exclusive interview with Madison365.

Myadze, who represents District 18 on Madison’s north side, was censured by the Common Council on December 10 and arrested December 12. The censure resolution cites allegations by three women — a fellow alder, a city employee and a member of the public — that Myadze sexually harassed them.

The resolution does not mention three other women who alleged that Myadze physically abused them over the course of many years, including while he was in office.

Reyes told Madison365 that Myadze choked, grabbed, punched and shook her on numerous occasions, and knocked her unconscious in November 2021. She shared photos of bruises she says he inflicted on her.

In an interview last week, Myadze said Reyes’s claims were “somewhat not true,” and any time she sustained injuries, he was acting in self-defense.

Myadze is due in court again February 3.
