MADISON, Wis. — Dane County Executive Joe Parisi is suspending all non-essential county employee travel to states enacting laws denying services to members of the LBGT community.
In a letter to county department heads, Parisi said he’s suspending travel to North Carolina and Mississippi.
“In this day and age I simply cannot support county money being spent on conferences, conventions, and other events these states rely upon for sales tax, hotel taxes, and other revenue,” he wrote.
Parisi also said he’s watching out for a push for similar legislation being introduced in Wisconsin.
In a separate letter to Gov. Scott Walker, Parisi asked Walker if he would commit to opposing any attempts to introduce similar legislation in Wisconsin.
