The Madison School District has named Patrice Haste, an East High alum and the school’s current assistant principal, as the new, permanent principal of Madison East High School.
Haste will succeed Mikki Smith, who will be retiring at the end of this school year. Haste’s career with MMSD began in 2011, encompassing positions as a social worker, positive behavior support coach and dean of students.
“I bring over a decade of experience in education and a strong commitment to improving student outcomes and supporting educators in delivering high-quality instruction,” Haste said in a social media post on Thursday. “I believe in equity, building strong, positive relationships across the school community, and fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment where every student feels valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential.”
Haste will start her new position on July 1.
“I am committed to working collaboratively with students, families and staff to build upon the established strengths of Madison East High School,” Haste said. “I welcome the opportunity to meet you at the upcoming school events and throughout the school year. I encourage you to reach out to share your thoughts and suggestions to ensure the success of East High School and our students.”
