Milwaukee police have identified Purcell Pearson, 22, as the victim who was fatally shot in downtown Milwaukee on Saturday.
Police say the homicide occurred at 12:23 p.m. near North 23rd Street and West Wisconsin Avenue. Milwaukee police said a person inside a vehicle fired shots at Pearson, killing him.
Pearson was a beloved member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in May 2020.
“He was so young — he just graduated. He was just starting life after college,” fraternity brother Clint Myrick told WISN. “It’s just so tragic that this happened. He was a really warm and loving, caring person. If you were in the room with him for 5 minutes, you would love him.”
Pearson was president of his fraternity’s Zeta Iota chapter and 2019 campus Homecoming King. According to a profile of Pearson written by UW-Whitewater in June, Pearson planned to earn a doctorate in clinical psychology and open up a mental health practice in an impoverished, multicultural neighborhood.
Milwaukee police are still looking for the shooter.
