Major League Soccer club Real Salt Lake said in a press release Thursday that 17-year-old central midfielder Julio Benitez would spend the 2023 season on loan with Forward Madison.

Forward Madison has not confirmed the move, which was first reported by Wisconsin Soccer Central.

Benitez signed with Real Monarchs, RSL’s second-division affiliate, from the RSL Academy in March of 2021. He scored four goals in 17 appearances with the academy. During his first season as a professional he totaled 392 minutes in nine games played, seven of which were starts. Additionally, Benitez has made two appearances with the U15 U.S. Men’s National Team against Russia and Poland as part of the roster that traveled to Poland for the U15 UEFA Development Tournament, according to the RSL website.

Forward Madison head coach Matt Glaeser was an assistant coach with Real Monarchs and Real Salt Lake from 2018-2020.

Forward Madison’s preseason continues tomorrow with a closed-door friendly against Chicago Fire 2. The 2023 season gets underway March 26 at Union Omaha, and the home opener is set for April 15 against Greenville Triumph.
