River to the Heart: Film Screening and Discussion will take place Tuesday, Oct. 30, 6-8:30 p.m. at Wisconsin Union South, 1308 W. Dayton Street.

In 1988, travel writer Eddy Harris embarked on a voyage down the Mississippi River and into the heart of America, exploring magnificent landscapes, awakening the ghosts of history residing along the shore and seeing how all of it changed his perspective of how the landscape can affect the soul of nation.

Now, nearly 30 years after his first trek down the river, Harris shares what he’s learned about the world, the Mississippi River and his own identity at this year’s Nelson Institute Everyone’s Earth lecture.
