The Teejop & Beyond: Celebrating Native Nations program returns to Madison Public Library on Monday, Oct. 12, Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Hosted in partnership with Ho-Chunk Gaming Madison, the program highlights traditional and contemporary Native practices, stories and community relationships.

Throughout October and November, presenters representing several Native nations will lead programs focused on Native art, crafts, storytelling and food, according to a press release from the City of Madison. Participants will have opportunities to try hands-on activities such as beading and basket weaving, sample Indigenous cuisine and hear traditional and personal stories.

“The Teejop & Beyond initiative only grows stronger as each year passes, and it’s something that staff and patrons look forward to,” said Jamie Stanaway, the community engagement librarian coordinating the program, in a press release. “Not only is it incredibly rewarding to work with Indigenous historians through their crafts, but it’s also a crucial way to connect to Wisconsin’s collective past, present and future.”

This year’s presenters and participants represent the Ho-Chunk, Oglala Sioux, and Oneida nations. They include:
