MADISON, Wis. – The Frequency, a downtown local music venue, announced Monday that it will be shutting its doors June 30.
According to a Facebook post, due to increased costs and low revenue the owner needs to take time off to re-evaluate the business.
All shows booked through June 30 will be honored, but all other bookings are suspended.
Since the Frequency opened in June 2008, it’s been a home to Clyde Stubblefield, hosted punk groups and helped launch artists like The Lumineers and Macklemore.
According to the post, owner Darwin Sampson wanted The Frequency to “foster local musicians and highlight regional/national touring bands.”
To celebrate the 10 years of business and thank the community, June 8 and June 9 will feature new and old favorites of The Frequency. Some bands include Cribshitter, the Skintones, Dead Rider, The Beer Nuts, Cheer Accident, Salamander Exhibit, Faun Fables and more.
“The Frequency would like to especially thank Terrin Riemer, Ricky Riemer, Cathy Dethmers, Larry Lichte, all our employees present and past, every artist that we have worked with, every patron who has ever walked through our door, the local press, and city officials who have been an intricate part of making The Frequency a success these past ten years,” the Facebook post said.
