Wisconsin Athletics has announced that UW men’s basketball’s career leading scorer Alando Tucker will serve as the Grand Marshall for this year’s Crazylegs Classic. Joining Tucker as the celebrity walk-starters will be 2018 Olympic curlers Becca Hamilton and Nina Roth.
Tucker, the all-time leading scorer in Wisconsin men’s basketball history, returned to UW Athletics as the Director for Student-Athlete Engagement in February of this year. After a decade in professional basketball — including three years in the NBA and stints in Europe and the Middle East — Tucker recently retired from playing professional basketball.
“I’m very excited to be this year’s Grand Marshall,” Tucker said in a statement. “This is an amazing honor and there’s so much history with the Crazylegs Classic. Any time you mix health with fun for a great cause that’s something I want to be a part of and I’m really looking forward to seeing all of this year’s participants!”
Tucker will preside over this year’s festivities on Saturday, April 28. The start is set for the iconic Capitol Square at 10 a.m., race down State Street for both the run and walk, before finishing on the field inside historic Camp Randall Stadium.
“We’re excited to welcome back Alando to campus and provide a stronger tie to the Badgers for the Crazylegs participant experience,” Mike Cerniglia, W Club executive director and event organizer, said in a statement. “For our many basketball fans, it’s fantastic to have Alando be part of our race day!”
