Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra releases Convergence album, showcasing composers of color

The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra has officially released Convergence, the second album in its five-year Musical Landscapes in Color project, which highlights the work of living composers of color.

Performed and recorded live on October 10, 2024, Convergence features works by acclaimed composers including four-time GRAMMY nominee Patrice Rushen, contemporary composer Andre Myers, Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Abels, and flutist-composer Valerie Coleman. The concert took place at Overture Center’s Capitol Theater and included selections from Abels’ Nope film suite as well as his work Global Warming.

The Musical Landscapes in Color initiative, developed in collaboration with WCO Composer Curator Dr. William Banfield, aims to reimagine the orchestral canon and provide a platform for underrepresented voices.

“This project seeks to shift the paradigm from what has been to what will be,” WCO said in a statement. “It’s about taking in new perspectives and layers of sound that have been inspired by the impulses of modern culture.”

Convergence is available in physical format at the WCO merchandise booth at Concerts on the Square and for digital download on Amazon and Presto Music. It can also be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube.
