Wisconsin’s own Bizhiki to headline campus Native November event next week

Native November at the Wisconsin Union will culminate with a powerful, immersive performance from Bizhiki, a Wisconsin-based musical collective that blends traditional Ojibwe vocals and drumming with contemporary soundscapes. Featuring Dylan Bizhikiins Jennings (Bad River Ojibwe), Joe Rainey Sr. (Red Lake Ojibwe), and multi-instrumentalist S. Carey, the six-piece ensemble creates a sound that is at once ethereal, visceral, and deeply rooted in Ojibwe tradition.

The six-piece band will be accompanied by Native dancers in a performance designed to leave listeners “intellectually, spiritually, and culturally nourished,” according to a release from the Union, followed by a moderated Q&A with Jennings and Rainey.

An Evening With Bizhiki takes place Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 6–9 p.m. in Shannon Hall at Memorial Union. The performance is free.
