The rate of coronavirus tests returning positive results fell to 6.3 percent — down from 7.6 percent on Monday — as just under 10,000 tests returned 634 positive results, according to Wisconsin state and county public health data. The 634 new cases bring the total case count for Wisconsin to 66,830. Of those, just under 8,400 are considered active, about 200 fewer than Monday.
Additionally, 13 more fatalities were reported — six in Milwaukee County, two in Racine County, and one each in Jefferson, Lincoln, Outagamie, Washington and Waukesha Counties — bringing the total death toll to 1,052. It was Lincoln County’s first fatality. Eighteen people who tested positive for coronavirus infection have died of other causes, and are not counted as covid fatalities.
Today’s data brings the seven-day average of new cases down to 721 and the 14-day average to 761. Over the past seven days, the percentage of positive tests has averaged 7.87 percent, an increase from 7.6 percent Monday.
Wisconsin has averaged seven deaths per day over the past week and six per day over the past two weeks, for a total of 82 in the past 14 days.
The highest local new case count came in Milwaukee County, with 113 new cases and 8.55 percent of tests coming back positive. Close behind was Brown County with 111 new cases — far more than the Northeast Wisconsin county has seen in recent months — and 15.18 percent tests returning positive results.

Oconto County: 13 new cases, 7.26 percent positive tests
Outagamie County: 32 new cases, 8.21 percent positive tests
Ozaukee County: 20 new cases, 64.52 percent positive tests
Racine County: 34 new cases, 5.15 percent positive tests
Sheboygan County: 23 new cases, 15.13 percent positive tests
Trempeleau County: 15 new cases, 38.46 percent positive tests
Walworth County: 10 new cases, 8.2 percent positive tests
Washington County: 30 new cases, 85.71 percent positive tests
Waukesha County: 44 new cases, 5.91 percent positive tests
Waupaca County: 14 new cases, 12.61 percent positive tests
Hospitalizations rose Monday to 380, 15 more than Monday and 16 more than a week ago. Of those, 109 are in intensive care units, 15 fewer than Monday.
The rate of disparity in Latino populations has improved but continues to stand out. More than 22 percent of total cases are now Latino people, as well as 16.88 percent of today’s new positive cases. Latinos make up just seven percent of the state’s overall population.
Similarly, 14 percent of all cases are Black people, as are 20 percent of total COVID-19 related deaths in the state. Black people make up just six percent of the state’s population.
The state now reports that two percent of all covid cases in Wisconsin have died, while 85 percent have recovered and 13 percent remain active.
