Public Health of Madison and Dane County reported 101 new COVID cases today, bringing the county’s cumulative total to 37,290. Recovered cases in Dane County grew to 34,810 after today’s update while active cases dropped slightly this morning to 2,142 or about six percent of all cases. Out of all cases in Dane County, about 51 percent of cases were in Madison while 49 percent have been outside of Madison.
Over the past seven days, the percentage of positive for the county has dropped to 2.7 percent. Over the past 14 days, the rate is now at 3.4 percent. These rates do not include preliminary data from the past four days.
Deaths in Dane County remained at 228 this morning, with most of the deaths remaining among those 70 and older. The most deaths in a single month occurred in December of 2020 with 86 total deaths in that month. Currently, there have been 15 deaths reported in January from COVID-19 in the county.
Hospitalizations in Dane County, including both residents of Dane County and people from neighboring counties, continued to drop to 76 with 21 of those hospitalized in the ICU.
For Dane County residents, the number of people ever hospitalized for COVID-19 has grown to 1,120.
According to DHS’ website, Dane County has given 44,938 doses of the vaccination – the most of any county.
