Rush hour gets more intense as E. Johnson St. is shut down due to the spill of an “unknown slippery substance,” according to officers at the scene.
A spill from E. Johnson to Fordem Ave. resulted in the street being shut down as peak rush hour kicks off. Officers have blocked off the street and all streets leading in. Traffic has been redirected towards E. Washington Ave.
It is currently unclear what the substance is on the street. Firefighters are working to clean it up, but the area has been deemed unsafe to drive on for the time being.
The Madison Police Department and City of Madison Fire Department could not be reached for comment on when the spillage will be cleared or what the substance is.
