The Madison365 girls basketball team’s spring season gets underway Friday in Stoughton.
After a solid run of tournament success at the 12U level last year, the squad has done some skills development work and added two players to make another run from now through July.
“All of our girls are definitely more skilled this year than they were last year,” said head coach Henry Sanders. “Obviously, we have more experience … and we have a lot of girls who really love basketball.”
Sanders said he considers the first few tournaments, from now through March, the “preseason.”
“We have some tournaments just to try to build team chemistry, make sure the team is in shape, and get used to playing against teams that are pretty good,” he said. “A lot of (the players on) our team have come from teams where they were the best player. We have to make sure that they play as more of a team, because they’re going to be playing against a high level competition, probably some of the best competition in the Midwest. And to do that, not one player can carry the team. The team has to work as a whole unit.”
Also added to the team for 2025 are assistant coaches Evan Nelson and Nimrod Hilliard IV, a former Madison East stand-out who’s just returning from a stint playing professionally in Iceland.
“This is such an exciting experience for me,” Hilliard said. “To have the pleasure to help coach this talented group of young ladies and go to war with them will be amazing! I can’t wait to show them the work ethic it takes to be the best player you can be, but also love and enjoy playing this game we call basketball.”
The team plays Monroe at 5:30, with the winner taking on either Moxie or Edgewood at 6:15 Friday at Sports Enhancement Academy in Stoughton.
