The Center for Black Excellence and Culture (The Center) will officially open its doors on Wednesday, May 6, welcoming the public to experience a long‑awaited space created to honor Black culture, history, and future generations. The Center is a three-level, 37,000-square-foot new building that will be a landmark in Madison, Wisconsin, and beyond.
The Grand Opening Celebration and Community Open House will take place from 2-6 p.m. at 671 W. Badger Rd. Designed as a home for opportunity and Black brilliance in all its forms, the Center is a space where culture, creativity, and excellence are preserved and shared boldly with the world.
“This is a moment we have imagined, worked toward, and prayed for and believed in for years,” said Rev. Dr. Alex Gee in a press release. “It was made possible by the care, conviction, and courageous investment of our teams, our community, and Black partners across this state who believed this vision was not only necessary but inevitable. The Center stands as a point of pride and well-being for Black communities statewide and as a promise to future generations, a space that affirms who we are, advances what is possible when our culture is honored, and contributes to the cultural and economic vitality of Wisconsin.”
The open house is free to the public, welcoming neighbors and community members to explore the space and celebrate together. Throughout the afternoon, guests will have the opportunity to tour the building, connect with the team, learn more about The Center’s mission and programming, and enjoy light refreshments, according to a press release from The Center.
Community members interested in attending can learn more and sign up using the Grand Opening Open House RSVP Form.
