Syed Abbas, who just moved from New York to Madison three years ago, has won election to the Madison Common Council to represent Madison’s east side. He earned 53 percent of the vote to defeat Dianne Farsetta.
Abbas will replace Larry Palm, who did not seek reelection. He said in an interview that he would seek greater representation for the North Side.
“I am running because my last three years in this neighborhood, I realize there is a gap between East side, where I live, and North Side. North Side does not get fair representation,” Abbas said in a recent interview.
Abbas will become the first Pakistani immigrant to serve on the Madison Common Council.
