National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign held on the first Tuesday in August that promotes positive relationships between residents, law enforcement, fire departments, and other public safety agencies, has been cancelled in Madison due to the ongoing investigation involving the police shooting death of Corey Ruiz.

The Madison Police Department had initially planned events throughout the city tonight, including a larger celebration featuring community partners at Warner Park.

“Due to this ongoing investigation, all National Night Out events have been canceled,” MPD said in a statement. “Thank you all for your ongoing patience.”
