Bikes for Kids Wisconsin, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing the use of bicycle-based transportation for everyone through access, low-cost repairs, and education, is reaching out to the public to donate 200-300 gently used bicycles of all sizes and styles for their upcoming Bike Giveaway events.

Bikes for Kids Wisconsin has a goal of giving away approximately 1,600 bicycles in April and May to provide transportation opportunities to underserved individuals. Bicycles donated to the program will be refurbished and tuned up by staff and volunteers to ensure safety before being distributed.

“It is always inspiring to see the community rally to support this initiative when we ask for help. If your child has outgrown their bike and you’d like to pay it forward so someone else can have the same opportunity, this is an excellent opportunity to do just that,” said Kristie GoForth, executive director at Bikes for Kids Wisconsin, in a press release. “Every donated bicycle makes a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families in need and the public recognizes the importance of having access to low-cost transportation.”

In addition to bike donations, Bikes for Kids is also seeking 150 volunteers to help distribute bikes at the giveaway events. Bilingual volunteers are especially needed to assist with translation services.

Donations can be dropped off at Bikes for Kids Wisconsin located at 354 Coyier Lane in Madison from Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and on Monday and Tuesday evenings between 6-8 p.m. Email [email protected] to make an appointment outside of these hours or to request information.
