Black Girl Magic Educational Services will bring together Black girls from across Dane County for a day of workshops, networking, and inspiration led by local Black leaders at the 9th annual Black Girl Magic Conference on Thursday, May 28, at Madison College’s Truax Campus.
Black Girl Magic Educational Services creates spaces where “Black girls in grades 4 through 12 feel seen, supported, and celebrated through programs that build confidence, creativity, and leadership.” Since 2018, the conference has reached thousands of Black girls across Wisconsin’s South Central Region and continues to be a cornerstone of community and empowerment.
“We are thrilled to welcome over 675 girls under one roof, providing them with a platform to connect, learn, and be inspired by women who mirror their own aspirations,” said Rosa Thompson, founder of the Black Girl Magic Conference, in a press release.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Willow Newell, the reigning “Miss Wisconsin,” who is the first Black woman to take home the crown. A Racine native and Carthage College graduate, Newell champions her community service initiative, The ART of Belonging, which promotes inclusive access to the arts and highlights how creativity builds confidence, community, and purpose.
