The surging Milwaukee Brewers – winners of their last 5 games – got devastating news last night after their 4-3 victory over the Miami Marlins. Reigning National League MVP Christian Yelich will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his right kneecap.

Yelich was injured in the top of the first inning when he fouled a pitch off his kneecap. General manager David Stearns said the Brewers star will return to Milwaukee for additional tests on Wednesday, adding that it’s not yet known if he’ll need surgery.

Yelich was having another MVP season batting .329 with 44 home runs and 97 RBIs. The Brewers are currently 5.5 games back of the NL Central and 1 game back of the Cubs for the final Wild Card spot.
