As part of its strategic framework to support excellence among its Black students, the Metropolitan School District will host a series of conversations with prominent community members about what, exactly, Black Excellence means and how schools can support it.

The strategic framework, announced at an August 1 press conference, includes five main pillars: Empowering school communities, Investing in people, Streamlining priorities, Planning for the future and Embracing innovation.

Also important to the framework is to engage the community in what . To that end, Nichelle Nichols, MMSD’s Executive Director of Family and Community Engagement, will engage in a series of conversations with community leaders from a variety of sectors and organizations outside the education system to get their opinions — and answer your questions — about how the schools can better support Black students and community.

The conversations, which are being produced by Madison365 in partnership with the Madison Metropolitan School District, will be broadcast live on Madison365’s Facebook page. The first conversation will take place Wednesday, September 5 at 6:30 pm, between Nichols and Madison365’s own Henry Sanders.
