The rate of new coronavirus infections in Wisconsin has slowed for the second consecutive day as Gov. Tony Evers allows for more businesses to open for curbside and delivery service.

Wisconsin now has 6,117 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, just 160 more than were reported as of Sunday afternoon.

That’s less than half the number of new cases seen as recently as Friday, when 344 new cases were confirmed. Even more encouraging, the reduction in new cases is not solely due to a reduction in testing; in the past 24 hours, just 7.57 percent of tests came back positive, the lowest rate since the state began reporting it two weeks ago.

Wisconsin also saw nine lives lost in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 281.

Hospitalizations also remained steady, with 337 people hospitalized for the third consecutive day. However, the number of people requiring mechanical ventilators to breathe rose to 327 — 97 percent.

Additionally, 204 people are hospitalized and awaiting test results.

Meanwhile, a new Emergency Order today from Gov. Tony Evers announced today will expand allowed operations for nonessential businesses like dog groomers, small engine repair shops, upholstery businesses, and others to safely open.
