Daily positive test rate tops 46% as state reports nine new deaths

The state of Wisconsin reported nine COVID deaths on Sunday, bringing the total death toll to 4,692. An additional 102 people have tested positive for COVID but died of other causes. With lower numbers of death certificates being processed over the holiday weekend, the seven-day average of reported deaths fell to 41.9.

The state also reported just over 4,900 new coronavirus tests over Sunday, of which 2,287 were positive, for a positive test rate of 46.65 percent — considerably higher than recent days.

The seven-day positive rate for all people ticked up slightly to 24.2 percent and the positive rate for all tests held at 8.1 percent. The number of active cases continued its steady decline and is now just under 30,000 — about 6.2 percent of the 470,818 total cases the state has confirmed to date.

The seven-day average of new cases per day rose slightly to 2,274.
