Dane County confirmed 18 new coronavirus cases this morning, bringing the County’s total to 4,887. As of this morning, the total number of recovered was listed as 4,227.
Dane County’s death toll from COVID-19 remained at 39 this morning while today’s total number of people ever hospitalized grew to 314. Currently, there are 29 people hospitalized for coronavirus in Dane County – up from yesterday’s 21 – while nine of those are in the ICU.
Today’s highest concentration of cases were among those in their 40s and younger, with four cases for those in their 40s and 20s, and three cases for teens aged 10-19 and people in their 30s. Children aged 0-9, those in their 50s, 70s and 80s each added one case.

The most updated data on positive test percentage for a day is for August 17, with the positive test percentage reported as 1.7 percent while August 16 is now at 1.5 percent. The positive percentage for August 15 has been updated to 1.84 percent and August 14 at 2.1 percent. Madison365 expects that these numbers will be adjusted as more negative and positive tests are fully processed and attributed to the appropriate dates in the coming days. Public Health of Madison and Dane County updated their Data Dashboard for the week of August 1 – August 14 with a brief look at those past two week’s data. They will be publishing a more comprehensive snapshot on Thursday as reported last week in order to include Department Health Services’ county level metrics that DHS’ releases on Wednesdays.
Currently, for those dates, Dane County has averaged 47 cases per day which is lower than last week’s 50 cases. However, this number is still too high for the Forward Dane reopening plan to move forward, and is coded as red on the data snapshot metrics. For those dates, an increase of 83 percent of those who test positive have been contacted within 48 hours of being tested which is up from last week’s 75 percent, which means this metric stays yellow according to the snapshot. Though last week’s snapshot reported that the percentage of those who tested positive who did not know where they would have gotten COVID from was at 40 percent, this week it rose to 41 percent keeping this metric red as well.
