Dr. Nestor Rodriguez to lead discussion on self-care for leaders

Leaders, especially in the social justice and nonprofit space, often preach that people need to take care of themselves — but don’t always heed their own advice.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Nestor Rodriguez has agreed to moderate the panel discussion on that very topic on Wednesday, October 7, the third day of the Wisconsin Leadership Summit.

Dr. Rodriguez is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician and the Medical Director/carbonCo-Owner of Carbon World Health. Dr. Rodriguez is a unique blend of intellect, personality, hard work and perseverance. He emigrated from El Salvador to the inner city of South Central Los Angeles at the age of 7. Despite coming from a single-parent, Spanish-speaking home, Dr. Rodriguez successfully became the first person in his family to obtain a high school diploma, graduating from the prestigious Loyola High School in Los Angeles. He subsequently earned his undergraduate degree in the challenging field of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at Yale University. After graduating with honors and multiple academic awards, Dr. Rodriguez followed his dream to study medicine, which he did at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, where he found a passion for sports medicine, cosmetic procedures, and emergency medicine. Thereafter, he was part of the inaugural class of the University of Wisconsin emergency medicine residency program. In 2010, after serving as a Chief Resident, Dr. Rodriguez joined the faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Wisconsin as the Assistant Residency director. Within two years, he had already been nominated for the “Assistant Residency Director of the Year” award. In 2014, he was awarded the “Faculty Teaching” award from the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors.

After a successful academic career, Dr. Rodriguez elected to go into private practice and is currently the Medical Director of Emergency Services at Watertown Regional Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Rodriguez and his significant other, Ashley Greer, created Carbon World Health, a one-stop shop for fitness, health, and beauty. They saw a need to create a comprehensible lifestyle-changing facility for long term results. In 2016, he was awarded the “Impact Award” by the Urban League of Greater Madison for his work in developing young professionals in the Greater Madison Area. Finally, in 2018, Dr. Rodriguez was awarded the “Entrepreneur of the Year” by the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County.

The Summit this year is all online, so you can attend from the comfort of your home or office. It will feature 25 sessions over five days from October 5-9, all for just $79 (or less if you work for a nonprofit organization or government agency, or if you’re a student).
