For the 10th consecutive year, Edgewood College is announcing the availability of the Community Scholar’s award, a four-year full-tuition scholarship that will be awarded to three Dane County high school students who plan to enroll in Edgewood College in the fall of 2016.

The Community Scholars program is designed to develop informed, engaged, just and compassionate community leaders by providing a student-centered developmental framework of self-exploration, civic engagement, and leadership development. This scholarship is for academically motivated Dane County residents who demonstrate financial need and is intended to make an Edgewood College education available to economically disadvantaged students who might not otherwise pursue higher education.

The Community Scholars Award covers full-tuition (after federal and state grants have been applied), course supplies, laptop, and books. It should be noted that while students are encouraged to live on campus, this award does not cover the costs associated with room and board. Financial need and a strong interest in continuing to serve the civic needs of Dane County will be the most important factors in determining scholarship recipients. Participants will be expected to meet all program requirements each semester to continue to receive the award. Scholars receiving the Community Scholars Award contribute 200 hours of service and leadership annually at nonprofit organizations in Dane County.

Community Scholars award recipients join a team of students committed to academic excellence, personal/vocational growth, spiritual exploration, community service and leadership development.

The program has experienced great success over the past eight years. For example, 90 percent of the students who completed the program graduated in four years and collectively contributed to over 7,000 hours of community service in Dane County. Graduates of the program continue to build a just and compassionate world through employment with community based nonprofit organizations, social services, and law enforcement.

To be considered for the Community Scholars Award, students must:
1. Apply and be admitted to Edgewood College. Students can apply for free using fee waiver code 132 on the online application at www.edgewood.edu.
2. Have financial need as demonstrated through the completion of the FAFSA and/or other documentation
3. Be a graduating high school senior residing in Dane County
4. Demonstrate a commitment to contribute to the Dane County community through service and civic engagement during college and upon graduation
