Forward Madison FC has signed 16-year-old midfielder Tino Vasquez to an Academy Contract, pending league and federation approval, the club announced in a press release Wednesday. A USL Academy Contract allows a young player to experience the senior team level of play, while retaining their amateur status and college eligibility.

Vasquez grew up in Barrington, Illinois, where he joined the Chicago Fire U15 Academy. Vasquez quickly made a name for himself in the academy, earning him Mexican National Team call-ups for the U15 and U17 teams. The Class of 2024 midfielder also had a U.S. Soccer Training Invite, as he holds dual-citizenship.

“Tino’s an exciting young player with a very high ceiling” Head Coach Matt Glaeser said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to having him in our environment and having him grow and develop here.”

Forward Madison begins the 2023 USL League One season Sunday at Union Omaha.
