Gabe Javier Named Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs – Identity and Inclusion at UW

Gabe Javier, who has led the Multicultural Student Center on the UW campus and previously directed the LGBT Campus Center, has been named Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs – Identity and Inclusion, according to an email to UW staff from Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Lori Reesor.

Reesor said Javier has held the position on an interim basis since it was first created in June, and that an internal search resulting in his being offered and accepting the job on a permanent basis as of December 1.

Javier will now oversee the Multicultural Student Center, Gender and Sexuality Campus Center, International Student Services, McBurney Disability Resource Center, and University Veteran Services. He will also lead diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across student affairs.

Gabe has worked to build inclusive and authentic student communities at UW–Madison since he joined the university in the summer of 2011,” Reesor wrote. “He is a thoughtful and empathetic leader, rare to find in his office, and easier to spot building relationships and supporting underrepresented students across campus. We are grateful he has agreed to serve in student affairs and to help us elevate this important work.”
