Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) announced that the WHEDA Foundation is awarding $2 million in grants to 59 organizations to support emergency shelters, transitional housing, and housing for extremely low-income residents across Wisconsin.
The grants, awarded through the 2025 Housing Grant Program, will support projects in 27 counties and are expected to improve or create approximately 1,515 beds and housing units. Individual awards range from about $7,500 to $50,000 and will fund projects such as building repairs, flood mitigation, energy efficiency upgrades, and accessibility improvements.
According to WHEDA, the grants are intended to support people with complex housing needs, including individuals with disabilities, survivors of domestic violence, people experiencing homelessness, and extremely low-income households.
WHEDA reported receiving 117 applications requesting more than $4.4 million in funding, exceeding the amount available for the program.
