Grammy-winning jazz bassist and composer Linda May Han Oh, whose bass playing is featured in Disney and Pixar’s 2020 film “Soul,” will perform Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Play Circle Theater in Memorial Union. The concert is part of the Wisconsin Union Theater’s 2026-27 Jazz Series.
“Linda May Han Oh is someone we’ve been wanting to have perform as part of a Wisconsin Union Theater season for a long time,” WUT Director Elizabeth Snodgrass said. “She is one of the most sought-after jazz bassists around. She is so versatile and draws from so many styles, from ska to grunge to bebop and more.”
Oh also served as the performance model for Miho, the bassist featured in “Soul.” Her compositions and performances draw from jazz, bebop, ska, grunge and other musical traditions.
Born in Malaysia, raised in Perth, Australia, and now based in New York City, Oh has performed and recorded with renowned artists including Terri Lyne Carrington, Vijay Iyer and Pat Metheny.
Oh received a Grammy Award as a member of the ensemble featured on Carrington’s album “New Standards Vol. 1,” which won Best Jazz Instrumental Album in 2023. She has also released several albums as a bandleader.
In 2026, Oh received a Guggenheim Fellowship in music composition. She also teaches at Berklee College of Music and recently performed at the Newport Jazz Festival.
