The City of Madison currently has a survey open to ask residents to help shape the city’s regional music brand.
The survey, in collaboration with the City of Madison’s Arts Commission, local public relations, The Creative Company, and local musicians, aims to help shape the future of music initiatives and support equitable growth. Dubbed the “Hero’s Journey,” it aims to uncover what Madison’s music story is and move towards more equitable opportunities to cultivate it.
“This survey is an opportunity for everyone, whether you perform, promote, teach, attend shows, or simply enjoy music in your everyday life, to help guide a more equitable and inclusive future for the Madison music scene,” said Angela Puerta, urban planner for the City of Madison and an award-winning musician.
The survey consists of nine open-ended, anonymous questions to understand your experience with Madison’s music sense and what you hope to see.
In current experiences, it touches on how you hope music events impact your mood, perspective or sense of connection; challenges or barriers to attending events; why you attend specific concerts in greater Madison; how you would describe Madison’s music scene; why someone may not want to go to a venue in the area; and how welcoming the environment is.
In what a person would like to see, the survey asks how Madison’s music community can better reflect the various cultures and identities that live here, and what kind of music events, genres or spaces one would hope to see supported in Madison.
“We want this process to be inclusive and community-led,” said Mark Frairie, Dane County director of Arts and Cultural Affairs (Dane Arts). “Every voice matters. Your feedback will help us develop a music identity that is authentic to our region and supports the long-term vitality of Madison’s vibrant music landscape.”
The survey is open until Dec. 18 at 10 p.m.
