Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) defeated local lawyer Antone Melton-Meaux, a well-funded primary challenger, on Tuesday.
Melton-Meaux, who had outraised Omar, had argued that the Congresswoman is too divisive and overly focused on building a national profile. Omar is a member of the “Squad” with Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Omar earned 57.4% of the votes to Melton-Meaux’s 39.2%.
