Francesca Hong wins crowded Dem primary in 76th Assembly District

0

Restaurateur and activist Francesca Hong has won the Democratic primary to represent downtown Madison in the State Assembly.

With 92 percent of precincts reporting, Hong held 27 percent of the vote, with Tyrone Cratic Williams close behind with 23 percent. But with only two precincts left to report, her lead of more than 800 votes was insurmountable.

Hong defeated several experienced local politicians, including Alder Marsha Rummel and Madison School Board member Nicki Vander Muellen.

Hong will face Republican Patrick Hull in the general election in November.

Incumbent Chris Taylor did not run for re-election, and has recently been appointed to the judicial bench.

This story has been corrected. We previously incorrectly reported that Heather Driscoll had been a Madison alder.
