Milwaukee Democratic State Sen. LaTonya Johnson easily defeated Michelle Bryant, the longtime chief of staff for State Sen. Lena Taylor, in the primary for Senate District 6 on Tuesday.

Johnson has been the state senator for District 6, which covers Milwaukee’s northwest side, since she was elected in 2016. Prior to that, she was in the Wisconsin state Assembly for two terms.

Johnson secured almost 80 percent of the vote in the electoral victory.
