Respected advocate and certified peer specialist Imani Jackson has been named the development director of Chrysalis, a mainstay of mental health and recovery support in Dane County, the non-profit announced on Tuesday.

“Imani embodies the spirit of Chrysalis,” said Chrysalis Executive Director Dani Rischall in a press release highlighting the announcement. “Her authenticity, passion, and leadership will help us build even stronger bridges to the community. We’re proud to have her lead us into this next chapter.”

Jackson, a native Madisonian who previously served as peer advocacy coordinator at Chrysalis, brings a unique lens to her leadership: lived expertise in recovery, deep roots in peer support, and a commitment to equity and inclusion, according to a press release from Chrysalis, and her approach is grounded in empathy and shared experience.

“Chrysalis has always been about more than just jobs,” Jackson said. “It’s about believing in people, meeting them where they are, and walking the journey together. I’m honored to take on this new role and help build the future of an organization that’s given so much to our community.”

Since 1980, Chrysalis has provided supported employment programs and peer advocacy services for people living with mental health and substance use challenges. Its programs help individuals find and maintain competitive, community-based employment, a proven driver of recovery and wellness. The organization’s impact through its Chrysalis programs includes increased self-esteem, stronger social networks, and improved quality of life for participants.

This is the first time in its 45-year history that Chrysalis has named a development director as the organization looks to expand its reach and impact through strategic fundraising, community partnerships, and advocacy.
