Children will eat free at JustVeggiez in downtown Madison, starting on Saturday, Nov. 1, until Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are restored.
The restaurant, which is Black-owned and 100 percent vegan, made the announcement Wednesday on social media, saying, “We believe that no child should worry about their next meal and that every individual has the responsibility to help their community when able, according to their gifts and talents.”
The government shutdown in Washington, D.C. means that federal funding is set to expire for SNAP, or food stamps. This benefits program currently serves more than 40 million people in the United States.
The JustVeggiez post went on to say that any child visiting Just Veggiez can receive a free Hot Dog Kid’s Meal until Snap benefits are restored. There is a limit of one kid’s meal per child and the offer is not available through online orders. The child must be present for dine-in meals.
JustVeggiez is located at 540 State Street in downtown Madison.
